Kaspersky’s latest research identifies Google, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, and DHL as the leading targets for cyberattacks among 25 prominent global companies.
The report highlights a significant increase in cyberattacks, with incidents rising nearly 1.5 times year-on-year.
In the first half of 2024, there were nearly 26 million attempts to access fake websites impersonating these brands, reflecting a nearly 40 percent rise from January to June 2023.
Among the brands studied, Google was the most targeted for credential theft, with Kaspersky blocking over 4 million attempts aimed at stealing Google account information.
Facebook followed as the second most targeted, with around 3.7 million attempts, and Amazon ranked third with about 3 million. Microsoft and DHL were fourth and fifth, with 2.8 million and 2.6 million attempts, respectively.
Other top targets included PayPal, Mastercard, Apple, Netflix, and Instagram.
The report also noted substantial increases in cyberattacks compared to the previous year. For instance, Google saw a 243 percent rise in attacks in the first half of 2024. Mastercard experienced a 210 percent increase, while Facebook and Netflix both saw their attack numbers double.
While high-profile brands are major targets, niche brands are not immune. Cybercriminals often focus on products and services in high demand, influenced by seasonal trends and other factors.
