The heat in the second Test between India and Australia wasn’t just on the scoreboard – it spilled over into some fiery moments between Indian pacer Muhammad Siraj and Aussie batter Travis Head. Both players have now been fined by the ICC for breaching the Code of Conduct, adding extra spice to an already intense rivalry. However, in a twist, Head clarified the situation post-match, saying, “I’m sweet and I think he’s the same.” He confirmed that he and Siraj had a conversation after the incident and had moved on, putting the drama behind them. Here’s what went down:
ICC Slaps Fines on Muhammad Siraj and Travis Head Over Code of Conduct Breach
Indian pacer Muhammad Siraj and Aussie batter Travis Head have been hit with fines for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test in Adelaide.
Siraj got a 20% fine of his match fee and one demerit point for violating Article 2.5, which covers “using language, actions or gestures that could spark an aggressive reaction from a batter when dismissed.”
Head, on the other hand, was fined under Article 2.13 for “abusing a player, support personnel, umpire, or match referee.” The Aussie batter reportedly swore at Siraj after the Indian bowler’s send-off, earning him a fine and one demerit point.
The drama unfolded after Head’s brilliant 140-run innings, which only added fuel to the already heated atmosphere on the field, with the crowd reacting strongly. Siraj’s actions led to him being booed by the Adelaide Oval crowd throughout the match.
Both players owned up to their actions and avoided formal hearings. This incident highlights the intense rivalry of the series but also reminds us of the importance of good sportsmanship.
Despite the controversy, Siraj got support from Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood, his IPL teammate at Royal Challengers Bangalore. Hazlewood described Siraj as “passionate, like Virat Kohli,” adding that he’s “a good character” and that he had a great time playing alongside him.
Australia won the match by 10 wickets to level the series at 1-1, but the drama off the field added a whole new level to an already fiery contest.
