Former Bangladesh cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan faces another major setback as a Dhaka court orders the seizure of his assets in a check bounce case.
According to media reports, Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Ziauddin Rahman, issued the order after checks issued for loan repayments by Shakib’s shrimp farm in Satkhira bounced due to insufficient funds. The farm, established in 2016, has been inactive since 2021.
In October 2024, the bank sent a legal notice, followed by a case in December against Shakib and three company officials. After failing to appear in court on January 19, an arrest warrant was issued against him.
Shakib remains outside Bangladesh, citing threats to his life amid political unrest and his association with the Awami League. He has also been named in a case related to the killing of a young protester during anti-government demonstrations.
