Will Rohit Sharma play in the 2027 World Cup? The Indian captain isn’t sure yet but says his decision will depend on his form and fitness in the coming years.
Speaking on Monday, Rohit said it was too early to decide but emphasized that he was keeping all options open.
“It’s difficult to say at this point, but I want to see how well I’m playing,” Rohit said. “Right now, I feel great, I’m enjoying my cricket, and the team enjoys having me around, which is nice. 2027 is still far away, so I can’t say for sure, but I’m keeping my options open.”
His comments come a day after leading India to victory in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand, where he also dismissed retirement speculations.
“I’m not retiring from this format… make sure no rumours are spread,”
he said during the post-match press conference.
Speculation about his future grew after he and Virat Kohli retired from T20 internationals last year following India’s T20 World Cup win in the West Indies and the USA. However, Rohit’s latest remarks indicate that he has yet to make a final call.
For now, the Indian skipper remains focused on his game, enjoying his leadership role, and leaving the future open to possibilities.
