“Some decisions are not in my control” Said on Fakahar’s ecxusion
Ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Australia, white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan shared insights into his leadership philosophy, team strategy, and the potential impact of players like Fakhar Zaman.
Rizwan hopes to foster shared leadership within the team, ensuring a strong future with multiple capable leaders. Reflecting on his own experiences under former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, Rizwan stressed the importance of continuity over immediate changes under his leadership.
Rizwan praised Fakhar Zaman’s game-changing abilities, clarifying that his own leadership aims to maintain consistency rather than overhaul the current team setup. He acknowledged former coach Aaqib Javed’s influence, especially his preference for spin-friendly pitches on home ground.
“Aaqib Javed’s strategies have benefited us, supporting the belief that spin-friendly pitches can drive success at home,” Rizwan remarked. However, he admitted these tactics wouldn’t be effective in Australia’s faster-paced conditions. “We’ve prepared well, and I’m optimistic,” he added.
Rizwan emphasized that coaching and team decisions are ultimately up to the board and management. He sees the captaincy as a duty, not a personal ambition, saying, “This responsibility was given by Allah. My role isn’t to transform everything overnight.”
With the Champions Trophy on the horizon, he noted the need to solidify T20 batting roles. Rizwan also highlighted the warm reception from Indian fans during Pakistan’s recent tour, expressing hope that Pakistani fans would respond similarly if India visits. Nonetheless, he affirmed that such decisions are in the board’s hands.
