The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is contemplating a “minus-India” plan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that India would not participate if the tournament is hosted in Pakistan.
In response, Pakistan is considering a boycott of future matches against India should India withdraw from the Champions Trophy.
Sources indicate that the PCB has briefed the government on India’s position, with officials advocating for a firm response. Pakistan remains committed to hosting the tournament in its entirety, rejecting any proposal for a hybrid model with matches outside Pakistan.
A PCB official stated, “We are prepared to counter India’s stance on all fronts and defend our hosting rights.” The PCB highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing record of accommodating Indian teams and providing a secure environment, adding that India’s refusal appears to be politically motivated.
While the PCB acknowledges the financial impact of a potential Indian withdrawal, it noted that India’s cricketing revenue would also be affected if Pakistan opts out of future tournaments. Pakistani stadiums are being prepared with robust security measures to host the event.
The ICC recently set a November 8 deadline for the BCCI to clarify its plans, and ICC security officials are expected in Pakistan next week for a review of facilities and security. As the February-March 2025 tournament date approaches, the PCB and Pakistan’s government are awaiting the ICC’s final decision on India’s participation and hosting arrangements.
