Karachi: The Pakistani cricket team’s scheduled press conference at 7:30 PM in Dubai was abruptly canceled today, while sources suggest that the 9 PM practice session may also be postponed.
The sudden developments have raised new questions ahead of tomorrow’s crucial Asia Cup clash between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
ICC Rejects PCB’s Demand
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had demanded that match referee Andy Pycroft be removed after his controversial role during the Pakistan–India match handshake incident.

However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) officially rejected the request and informed the PCB of its decision.
Alternative Referee Proposal
Insiders suggest that a middle-ground solution is being discussed, under which Andy Pycroft may be withdrawn from Pakistan’s upcoming matches and replaced by former West Indian captain Richie Richardson as match referee. However, no official confirmation has been made yet.
Boycott Threat and Financial Aspect
According to PCB sources, if Pakistan’s concerns are not addressed, the national team could boycott Asia Cup matches. Experts warn that a withdrawal could cost the board nearly USD 16 million in financial losses. This is why the PCB will consult with the government before finalizing its next move.
Fans Await Tomorrow’s Match
Despite the chaos, fans remain focused on tomorrow’s Pakistan–UAE clash. Although boycott rumors continue to circulate, Pakistan’s participation has not yet been officially ruled out.
