A recent stir on social media has been caused by a deepfake video featuring Indian cricketer Virat Kohli.
The video falsely depicts Kohli criticizing fellow player Shubman Gill, sparking significant reactions from fans and commentators.
In the video, Kohli appears to comment on Gill’s potential, saying, “There is a big difference between playing great and becoming a legend. I have seen Shubman closely; he is talented and his technique is impressive. People call him the Virat Kohli of the future, but there is only one Virat Kohli.”
The manipulated video uses footage from a 2019 interview with Graham Bensinger, with an audio track that mimics Kohli’s voice.
Although the video quickly garnered attention, many fans identified it as fake. One user remarked, “Even half asleep, I can tell this isn’t how Virat talks, and the voice isn’t his.”
This incident adds fuel to the ongoing debate in Indian cricket over comparisons between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. While Kohli is often celebrated as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time), some still view Tendulkar as the greatest batter in Indian cricket history.
