Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi on Monday endorsed the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to rest Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah for the remaining matches of the England series.
Afridi stated, “By resting the senior players, young talents get a chance to step in.” He further emphasized, “This move will help build a strong bench for the future.”
Recently, the PCB revealed its reasons for resting the senior players during the ongoing red-ball series against England.
The board clarified that while Babar Azam is one of the finest players of his generation, the decision to rest him, along with Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Sarfaraz Ahmed, was made considering Pakistan’s busy international schedule, the team’s form, and the need to give young players the opportunity to prove themselves against a tough England side.
The PCB also highlighted that young cricketers and domestic performers are being given the chance to showcase their skills in this series.
