Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed has opened up about his on-field encounter with Virat Kohli during the Champions Trophy 2025, sharing how he playfully challenged the Indian star.
Abrar, the only bowler to trouble Indian batters in the match, finished with figures of 1/28 in ten overs, keeping Kohli and others in check with his disciplined bowling. He also bowled a stunning delivery to dismiss Shubman Gill, considered one of the tournament’s best.
Reflecting on the high-stakes encounter, Abrar said his dream of bowling to Kohli had finally come true in Dubai. “I challenged him to hit me for a six, but he never lost his composure. Kohli is not just a great batter but also a wonderful human being,” he shared in an interview with a private media outlet.
The 26-year-old also recalled a memorable post-match moment with Kohli. “After the game, he told me, ‘well bowled,’ and that made my day. I grew up idolizing him and always told my under-19 teammates that I would bowl to him one day,” Abrar revealed.
Praising Kohli’s fitness and athleticism, Abrar highlighted his exceptional running between the wickets. “His fitness is remarkable, and the way he sprints between the wickets is a class apart,” he added.
