Nikkhil Advani’s forthcoming political drama series, “Freedom At Midnight,” will feature actors Arif Zakaria and Ira Dubey embodying the roles of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Fatima Jinnah, respectively. The announcement was disclosed by the producers on Saturday, May 11. Co-produced by StudioNext and Advani’s Emmay Entertainment, the series will be available for streaming on SonyLIV. “Freedom At Midnight” is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins.
The official Instagram handle of SonyLIV posted an announcement about the series, showcasing the initial looks of the actors in their respective characters. The caption included a quote attributed to Lord Mountbatten, reflecting on Jinnah’s tuberculosis and its potential historical implications.
The upcoming series is an expansive political thriller, delving into “various incidents from the year of India’s independence and interconnected narratives about pivotal events and personalities who shaped the nation’s history as we know it today.”
Expressing his excitement about portraying Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the series, actor Arif Zakaria remarked, “In preparing for the role of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, I realized the importance of depicting him as a flawed and multifaceted human being rather than an infallible hero.”
Ira Dubey also shared her sentiments about embodying Fatima, stating, “‘Freedom at Midnight’ marks my second collaboration with Sony LIV after Potluck. My role in this series presents a distinct departure from my previous projects, providing me with a unique yet challenging opportunity as an actor.”
