London: Music icon Dua Lipa and acting legend Emma Thompson have joined over 300 British celebrities in a bold demand for the UK to stop arming Israel — accusing the government of fueling war crimes in Gaza.
In an open letter to PM Keir Starmer, the star-studded list — including Tilda Swinton, Riz Ahmed, Annie Lennox, Paloma Faith, Massive Attack, and Gary Lineker — slammed Britain’s “complicity” in Israel’s military assault, urging a total arms ban, immediate ceasefire, and full humanitarian access to Gaza.
“You can’t call it ‘intolerable’ and still send weapons,” the letter declares, calling out Starmer’s double standards. It was organized by Choose Love, a UK-based humanitarian group.
Dua Lipa, long vocal on Gaza, previously labelled Israel’s actions as “genocide.” With over 54,000 reported dead in Gaza and nearly its entire population displaced, the pressure on Downing Street is intensifying.
While the UK suspended some arms licenses last year, critics say it’s nowhere near enough. “Complicity or courage — what will you choose?” the letter asks Starmer directly.
Earlier this month, Starmer condemned Israel’s offensive as “egregious” — but gave no timeline or plan for action.
This latest celebrity campaign joins a growing wave of outrage, including open letters from hundreds of UK lawyers and writers warning of genocide.
As bombs fall and aid remains blocked, Britain’s cultural icons are demanding an end to silence — and an end to arms.
