‘Kisi Ke Baap Ka Hindustan Thodi Hai’-Diljit Dosanjh’s Bold Defiance

-

In India, a growing dilemma is emerging where the worlds of sports, literature, and art often find themselves entangled in political battles. The clash between creativity and controversy has reached new heights, as political ideologies sometimes threaten the very essence of freedom of expression.

Bajrang Dal protested against Diljit Dosanjh’s concert

One such instance unfolded recently when the Bajrang Dal protested against Diljit Dosanjh’s concert in Indore, calling for its cancellation due to the singer’s alleged past remarks and his support for Khalistan.

But Diljit Dosanjh, the Punjabi superstar, wasn’t backing down. Instead, he stood tall against the opposition, turning the heat of the controversy into a powerful showcase of resilience.

He dedicated his performance to Rahat Indori, the late iconic Urdu poet from Indore, and invoked his famous ghazal, “Kisi ke baap ka Hindustan thodi hai ” (Hindustan isn’t anyone’s property), sending a clear message that neither politics nor protests could stifle the voice of art.

As the Bajrang Dal approached the Indore police with allegations against Dosanjh, the artist refused to be drawn into the political firestorm. Instead, he let his music do the talking.

While he refrained from directly addressing the protests, he cleverly responded to controversies such as accusations of black-marketing concert tickets, asking the crowd, “How is it an artist’s fault that a Rs 10 ticket is sold for Rs 100?” The audience’s laughter and applause spoke volumes.

Dosanjh also recited another iconic ghazal by Rahat Indori, reinforcing his defiance: “ Mere hujre mein nahin aur kahi par rakh do…” His tribute to the poet and his bold stance in the face of adversity became more than just a concert – it was a symbol of how art and culture can transcend politics.

His unwavering stand in the face of opposition proved that in the battle between freedom and control, creativity will always find a way to thrive.

In a nation where art, literature, and sports are constantly caught between politics and passion, Diljit Dosanjh’s defiant performance serves as a powerful reminder that creativity is not just a form of expression, but a force that can inspire change and unity even in the most divided of times.
