Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, 57, was admitted to a private hospital on Greams Road in Chennai early Sunday morning after experiencing chest pain, sources confirmed.
He was rushed to the hospital around 7:30 am, where a series of medical tests, including an ECG and echocardiogram, were conducted to assess his condition. A team of specialists is currently attending to him, and while an angiogram is being considered, no official statement has been released regarding his health.
Despite his personal and health challenges, Rahman has remained deeply immersed in his work. This year, he composed for the Tamil film Kadhalikka Neramillai and the upcoming Chhaava.
His much-anticipated collaboration with Mani Ratnam, Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, is set for a June 10 release. He is also working on several high-profile projects, including Lahore 1947, Tere Ishq Mein, Ramayana series, Ram Charan’s RC 16, and Gandhi Talks.
Rahman, a globally celebrated composer known for his contributions to Indian and international cinema, last made headlines in November 2024 when he and his former partner Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage.

Saira Banu wished AR Rahman a speedy recovery following his hospitalization, expressing concern for his health. She stated, “I wish him a speedy recovery and mujhe news mila ki unko chest pain hua tha, unka angio hua (I got the news that he had chest pain and he had angio).”
Addressing media reports about their relationship, she clarified that they are not officially divorced but only separated due to her health issues.
She urged the media not to refer to her as Rahman’s ex-wife, emphasizing, “Please, I request all the media persons to not address me as his ex-wife… and it’s just that we are now separated
“I want to tell you all that we are not officially divorced, we are still husband and wife. It’s just that we are separated because meri tabiyat pichale do saal se sahi nahi thi and main unko jyaada stress nahi dena chahti thi (I was not feeling well for the last two years, and I didn’t want to stress him out).”
Banu had cited health concerns as a key factor in their decision while assuring continued support for him. The couple has three children: Raheema, Khatija, and Ameen.With his music continuing to inspire millions, fans worldwide are hoping for his swift recovery.
