The legendary singer celebrates his 74th birthday today, a journey from Isa Khel to global fame.
The legendary voice of Saraiki and Punjabi music, Ataullah Khan Esakhelvi — lovingly known as Lala — has completed 74 vibrant years of life.
Born on August 19, 1951, in Isa Khel, Punjab, Ataullah’s passion for music was unstoppable, even when his father disapproved. Leaving home young, he turned pain into power — and that became the soul of his art.
He began his career in 1972 at Radio Pakistan, Bahawalpur. Within a year, his magic voice mesmerized audiences on PTV’s iconic Neelam Ghar and at a concert in Mianwali. Soon after, he recorded four folk albums in one sitting — and when they hit the market in 1977, his songs spread like wildfire across Pakistan.

Tracks like Ae Theva Mundri Da Theva made him a household name, while Chan Kithan Guzari Aayi Raat Ve took him to heights most artists only dream of.

With over 50,000 songs in seven languages, Ataullah Khan not only ruled hearts but also etched his name in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1994. The Government of Pakistan honored him with the Pride of Performance in 1991.
From humble village gatherings to international acclaim, Ataullah Esakhelvi remains the eternal voice of the people — a voice that still beats in every heart.
