Karachi: Ever wondered what happens when a vocal critic of Indian content suddenly turns into a Bollywood backup dancer? Well, welcome to Monkey Business — quite literally.

Yasir Hussain’s latest theatre play, currently being staged at the Arts Council Karachi, has become the talk of the town — and not for its script. Viral clips show Hussain and fellow actor Umer Alam dressed in female attire, dancing energetically to Bollywood hits like Saaki Saaki and Say Shava Shava. The irony wasn’t lost on the internet.

Social media erupted with criticism, with users accusing Hussain of the very thing he often condemns: promoting Indian culture. “From banning Bollywood to starring in it — that’s character development,” one user commented sarcastically. Another added, “Guess the boycott was only meant for TV, not the stage (or the sari).”

Some took the outrage a step further, questioning the moral and cultural implications of the performance. Meanwhile, others simply asked for more focus on original Pakistani content instead of “budget Bollywood imitations.”

A large number of netizens raised concerns about the ongoing Gaza crisis, reminding everyone that while many are enduring genocide, this kind of comedy is completely unacceptable in such a serious context.

Despite the rising criticism, Yasir Hussain has yet to issue a statement — possibly too busy picking his next item number.
So, is this Monkey Business just satire gone wrong, or a masterclass in double standards? You decide.
