Heeramandi stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Sheikh
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi took a dig at the life of courtesans in Lahore, garnering praise from fans, as well as a handful of hate from elsewhere.
The director, who is known for his art and portrayal of courtesans (tawaif) in Bollywood classics like Devdas and Gangubai Kathiawadi, certainly knows how to make a statement.
Sanjay knows best when it comes to showcasing women as dancers, empowering cinema with his unique directing skills.
Recently released trailer of Heeramandi (The Diamond Bazaar) fueled the audience with love, fury, and enthusiasm.
While many praised his grit for transforming love, betrayal, and revenge into a vibrant story, some expressed dismay over his weak portrayal of women, also mentioning Pakistan as the only essence in Bollywood.
However, it garnered strong emotions, both positive and negative.
Fans expressed excitement, falling head over heels in love with the upcoming project, sharing: “THIS IS GONNA BECOME A NEW OBSESSION I JUST KNOW IT. IT LOOKS SO GOOD ITS SO COLORFUL I HAVE NO IDEA WHATS GOING ON AND I DONT CARE.”
With others chiming in, “I’ve never been this excited for a show – this looks like everything I hoped it would be.”
A third gushed: “I confess, this #SanjayLeelaBhansali is authentically the best in showing women so celebrative! Can’t wait to watch this.”
Others however, despised it, adding: “Take Pakistan out of the picture and Bollywood will crumble!” and “Most of this is based on imagination not true events.”
Another expressed: “Without Pakistan, you Indians can’t do politics or make films. You hate Pakistan and then you’re also obsessed with it.”
The series stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Sheikh in lead roles.
