Over his four-decade career, he has appeared in 180 films that failed to resonate with audiences.
This can largely be attributed to his prolific output, having acted in nearly 300 films during his tenure in the industry.
The most striking statistic from Mithun’s career is that he hasn’t had a solo hit as a lead actor since 1998.
No other star comes close to this record of continuous flops. For instance, Govinda has 76 flops to his name, while Akshay Kumar has 60. Among the other active leading actors, such as Anil Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Sunny Deol, and Sanjay Dutt, only they have over 50 flops.
In 1998, after the release of Chandaal, Mithun’s career hit a rough patch. Out of the subsequent 33 films, none managed to surpass the ₹5 crore mark at the box office. However, his streak of bad luck was broken by his supporting role in Mani Ratnam’s Guru.
