Veteran Bollywood actress and Indian Member of Parliament Jaya Bachchan recently addressed an ongoing issue regarding her name.
Known for her strong and independent persona, Jaya once again voiced her frustration about being addressed by her husband Amitabh Bachchan’s name.
During a session in the Rajya Sabha, the Chairperson referred to her as
“Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.”
Jaya responded, “Thank you, sir. Do you know what Amitabh means?”
The Chairperson suggested she officially change her name, saying there are procedures to update names on election certificates and Rajya Sabha records.
Jaya confidently replied,
“I take pride in my own name and in Amitabh Bachchan’s achievements.”
She added, “You all have started this new drama about the name. I am very happy with my name . Male members of parliament should also consider using their wives’ names
This isn’t the first time Jaya Bachchan has spoken out about this issue. Last week, she asserted her identity as an “independent individual” in the Rajya Sabha.
