A recent controversy has emerged on social media in Pakistan involving Indian singer Kumar Sanu.
A song purportedly supporting former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been widely shared, causing confusion among fans. Kumar Sanu has now addressed the issue, seeking to clear up the misinformation.
The singer clarified on Instagram that he had no involvement with the song linked to him and Imran Khan.
He stated, “I have never sung any song for Pakistan’s former Prime Minister. The audio circulating on Facebook is not my voice—it has been created using AI.”
Sanu further remarked, “Some people are trying to defame me, so I want to inform my fans that this news is fake and a lie! This is a serious misuse of technology, and I urge the Government of India to take immediate action to prevent the abuse of AI and deepfake technology.”
The renowned 1990s singer stressed the importance of halting misinformation. The fake audio, which was edited from one of his concerts, includes altered lyrics falsely attributed to him: “We will free Imran Khan and make him the Prime Minister. We will raise our voices against injustice and form a new Pakistan.”
This misleading audio was overlaid on Sanu’s song ‘Chori Chori Dil Tera’ from the 1993 film ‘Phool Aur Angaar,’ originally featuring Mithun Chakraborty and Shantipriya.
