Rapper Fatman Scoop has died, his manager announced on Saturday. The 53-year-old artist suffered a medical emergency while performing at Hamden Town Center Park in Connecticut.
Despite medical staff’s efforts to administer CPR, he was pronounced dead at the hospital, as reported by US media.
Manager Birch Michael shared the news on Facebook, expressing profound sorrow and appreciation for Scoop’s influence on his life.
“You taught me how to be the man I am today. I love you Scoop. Thank you so much for everything you gave to me,” Michael wrote.
Tributes from the hip-hop community have been pouring in, with Missy Elliott celebrating Scoop’s lasting impact and radio host Shelley Wade mourning the loss of another hip-hop legend.
In 2018, Scoop made headlines in Australia when former Prime Minister Scott Morrison faced backlash for sharing a clip of Scoop’s hit “Be Faithful.”
Morrison later removed the post, and Scoop defended his music while inviting Morrison to a festival appearance in Australia.
