Dania Shah, the ex-wife of the late Pakistani TV host Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain, has been receiving serious threats since her remarriage, with the couple seeking protection from the government.
The threats include demands for Hakeem to divorce her or face fatal consequences.
Last month, Dania Shah confirmed her second marriage in a video statement, introducing her new husband, Hakeem Shahzad, a lawyer by profession.
Following their wedding celebration, the couple began receiving distressing threats, prompting them to seek legal and governmental assistance for protection.
The matter was brought before the Multan High Court, where Justice Asim Hafeez heard a petition filed by Dania and Hakeem.
According to the petition, they have been receiving menacing calls from international numbers, warning them of fatal consequences if Hakeem does not divorce Dania.
Despite reporting the threats and requesting security, no official protection has been provided yet.
The couple, currently residing in Shahpur, near Shujaabad, highlighted the gravity of the threats during the court hearing, stressing that they are prepared to bear the costs of security themselves.
They emphasized that these threats should not be taken lightly, especially after the tragic death of Dania’s first husband, Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
Dania’s remarriage to Hakeem Shahzad Ahmed took place after completing her Idda, the waiting period for widows in Islam.
However, the escalating threats have raised serious concerns for their safety, pushing them to pursue government intervention.
In response, Justice Asim Hafeez ordered the Deputy Commissioner and CPO Multan to address the couple’s plea for protection by September 17.
