“Weather Update – Low-Pressure System Brings Heavy Rainfall and Flooding Risks to Karachi”

A significant weather event is approaching Karachi as a low-pressure system from Gujarat, India, draws near.

The system is expected to intensify, leading to heavy rainfall and potential flooding in the region.

Chief Meteorologist of Karachi, Sardar Sarfraz, has indicated that the system is moving at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour, with Karachi potentially receiving between 100 and 200 millimetres of rain.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a monsoon alert, reporting that strong monsoon winds are persistently affecting Sindh. Thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy to very heavy rain are forecasted for Karachi and various rural districts of Sindh until August 31.

Urban flooding remains a concern in Karachi due to the expected rainfall, and fishermen are advised to stay out of open seas until August 31.

The monsoon system, now a deep depression, was positioned 320 kilometres from Karachi on Wednesday morning and could bring winds of up to 70 kilometres per hour. Rainfall is anticipated to continue through August 31.

On Wednesday, the Meteorological Department reported the highest rainfall was in Surjani Town .
