Record-Breaking August in Pakistan Extreme Rainfall across the Country

Rainfall across Pakistan has been highly variable, with some regions experiencing severe impacts and others falling short of expectations, resulting in significant destruction and distress.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has advised the public to take necessary precautions and remain indoors during heavy rainfall.

The government has mobilised emergency services to the affected areas, with rescue teams working tirelessly to evacuate stranded residents and provide aid.

Data shows that Punjab received 111% more rainfall than usual in August and 56% above normal over the initial two months. Gilgit-Baltistan saw 58% above normal rainfall in August and 5% above normal in the first two months.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced 25% above normal rainfall in August and 1% above normal in the initial two months. In contrast, Azad Jammu & Kashmir had 10% above normal rainfall in August but 20% below normal in the first two months.
