Transgender Population in Pakistan Declines- Seven Year Analysis of Census Data

In recent years, the transgender population in Pakistan has seen a decline. According to the latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, this decrease is evident in the figures reported between 2017 and 2023.

The transgender population in Pakistan was 21,774 in 2017, while by 2023, it had reduced to 20,331. This represents a decrease of 1,443 transgender individuals over the 7-year period.

According to the 2023 population census, the number of transgender people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was 1,117.

The census also reported that in Punjab, the transgender population was 13,957, while in Sindh, it was 4,222.

In Balochistan, there were 765 transgender individuals, and in the federal capital Islamabad, the transgender population stood at 270.
