Sindh government has announced plans to construct a new expressway linking the Karachi Port Terminal to Jam Sadiq Bridge.
The decision was made during a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Board meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The expressway will cover a total distance of 12.5 kilometers, with a portion running above ground and the remainder below the surface. The new road will connect with the Malir Expressway at Jam Sadiq Bridge.
Chief Minister Shah has instructed the Sindh local government department to finalize the project in collaboration with the PPP unit. The road will be built using PPP resources and funds allocated by the government.
In addition to the expressway, the Chief Minister announced the development of the NDD Technology Park, also under the public-private partnership model, with a budget of 1.7 billion rupees. An agreement for the technology park is expected to be signed later this month.
The PPP policy board also approved a large-scale reforestation project covering over 100,000 hectares in Sindh, with support from the Asian Development Bank.
The initiative aims to address Pakistan’s low forest cover, which currently stands at 6% of the land area compared to the recommended 25%. Reforestation efforts will begin in the katcha areas of Matiari and Jamshoro districts, starting with 34,995 hectares in the first phase.
Chief Minister Shah also expressed frustration over delays in the Marble City project and has called for its expedited implementation.
