PTI Leaders’ Arrests from Parliament sparks Outcry as Speaker Demands Action

-

In the wake of the recent arrests of PTI leaders, the National Assembly has moved to address the rising political tensions.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Demands Accountability for PTI Leaders’ Arrests

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has pledged to take strong action following the arrest of multiple PTI lawmakers, both inside and outside Parliament House.

In a session on Tuesday, Sadiq stated, “Action must be taken regarding the events that transpired in parliament last night.”

He has directed the retrieval of CCTV footage from all Parliament House entry points, including gates one and five, the cabinet gate, and within the building.

Sadiq expressed his frustration, feeling “unlucky” to have witnessed several disturbances in parliament during his tenure. He recalled the 2014 attack on Parliament House involving a party and its “cousin,” for which he filed an FIR and is prepared to do so again if necessary.

Sadiq has also summoned key political figures, including Ali Muhammad Khan, Syed Naveed Qamar, and Azam Nazeer Tarar, for discussions. He stressed the need for dialogue to resolve the situation.

Footage and Police Involvement in the PTI Case

PTI MNA Ali Muhammad Khan has provided the previous night’s footage to the speaker. Consultations also involve figures like Abdul Aleem Khan, JUI-F’s Noor Alam Khan, and MQM’s Aminul Haq. Sadiq has called upon the Islamabad police chief, along with the DIG and SSP, to present details of the cases against assembly members.

Law Minister Advocates for Restraint

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar called for restraint and adherence to the rule of law. He warned of the dangers of further divisiveness and pledged to address any wrongdoings. “I will acknowledge any excesses and correct them,” Tarar stated, urging all parties to manage their emotions and seek constructive solutions.

Criticism of PTI’s Commitment to Democracy

Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain questioned PTI’s commitment to democracy, highlighting past incidents where PTI members compromised parliamentary dignity. He recalled his warnings against actions that could damage the institution’s reputation.

PPP’s Naveed Qamar Condemns PTI Leaders’ Arrests

PPP MNA Naveed Qamar condemned the arrests of PTI leaders, calling the allegations a “serious matter.” He referred to the 2014 PTI sit-in and emphasized that entering parliament and crossing red lines should not be tolerated. “If we don’t act today, there will be no limits tomorrow,” he warned, urging the PML-N to take decisive action.
