In a key political development, the Punjab government has granted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) permission to hold a rally in Lahore.
A spokesperson for the district administration confirmed that PTI may proceed with the rally, provided it adheres to the required safety protocols (SOPs).
PTI was officially approved to hold the rally at Jallo Park, instead of the initially planned Minar-e-Pakistan venue. This change followed a Lahore High Court order instructing the deputy commissioner to respond to PTI’s petition for approval by 5 pm.
Sources reported that the Opposition Leader of the Punjab Assembly was summoned to the Deputy Commissioner’s office to finalize the rally arrangements.
As per the permit from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the rally is scheduled from 2 pm to 5 pm. The venue was shifted from Minar-e-Pakistan to Jallo Park due to security concerns and the court’s directive.
Meanwhile, Lahore Police have requested the Deputy Commissioner to place 42 PTI leaders and workers, including prominent figure Mian Aslam Iqbal, under house arrest. This move comes amid an ongoing crackdown, which has already resulted in the detention of over 70 PTI supporters.
