President Alvi Expresses Shock Over Imran Khan’s Arrest, Deplores Use of State Machinery

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi on Thursday expressed shock over the manner in which former prime minister Imran Khan was arrested and deplored the use of state machinery against political opponents.

In a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the president said he was shocked to see the “manner in which the former prime minister was arrested”.

“I am shocked to see the manner in which the former prime minister was arrested. The state machinery was used to humiliate and break the spirit of a democratically elected prime minister,” he said.

The president said that the arrest of the former prime minister was a “black day” for democracy in Pakistan.

“This is a black day for democracy in Pakistan. The arrest of the former prime minister is a clear violation of the Constitution and the law,” he said.

The president said that he had always believed in the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution.

“I have always believed in the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution. I have always stood up for the rights of the people and the institutions of the state,” he said.

The president said that he was “deeply concerned” about the current political situation in the country.

“I am deeply concerned about the current political situation in the country. The use of state machinery against political opponents is a dangerous trend,” he said.
