-

PM Shehbaz and Opposition Leader to Meet Today to Nominate Interim Prime Minister of Pakistan. Pakistan’s 15th National Assembly was dissolved last night after President Arif Alvi approved a summary from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

PM Shehbaz has invited Leader of the Opposition Raja Riaz to a meeting today to discuss the nomination of an interim prime minister.

The two leaders will consider a list of candidates, including former diplomat Jalil Abbas Jilani, former chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, former finance minister Ishaq Dar, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and former interim prime minister Mohammad Mian Soomro.

If PM Shehbaz and Riaz are unable to agree on a candidate within three days, the matter will be referred to a parliamentary committee.

The committee will have three days to make a decision, and if it is also unable to agree, the Election Commission of Pakistan will appoint the interim prime minister.

Elections must be held within 90 days of the dissolution of the National Assembly, but the outgoing administration has warned that the electoral process may be delayed.
