Sumira, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) air hostess, made headlines by reaching Canada without a passport. Assigned to flight PK 781 from Islamabad to Toronto, she bypassed standard protocols, relying solely on PIA General Declaration documents.

After the breach was discovered, PIA faced a hefty fine for allowing staff to enter Canada without proper documentation.

Meanwhile, the national carrier’s spokesperson confirmed that PIA has been fined $250 for the incident.

Contrary to speculations circulating in some quarters, PIA has vehemently denied reports suggesting that the air hostess intended to seek political asylum upon landing in Canada. The airline has emphasised that such claims are unfounded.

It is pertinent more than 10 PIA air hostesses have gone missing in Canada over the past two years, raising concerns about the welfare and safety of airline staff operating on international routes.

Further details regarding the fine imposed on PIA and the circumstances surrounding Samira’s journey to Canada are expected to emerge, with senior reporter Javed Asghar poised to provide deeper insights into the matter.

According to Dawn, some months before a vatern hostess of PIA Ms Raza after landing in Canada vanished in Toranto and when the authorities started looking for Ms Raza, opened her hotel room and found her PIA uniform along with a note reading

“Thank You, PIA”
