The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has launched an intensive fitness camp at the Army School of Physical Training (ASPT) in Kakul, Abbottabad, to ready the national cricket team for upcoming bilateral series and the ICC T20 World Cup. Collaborating with the Pakistan Army, the camp seeks to bolster players’ physical and mental prowess while emphasizing team cohesion and overall performance enhancement.

Attended by 29 players, including stalwarts like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Azam Khan, the camp commenced on March 26 and is set to conclude on April 8. Led by seasoned trainers and coaches, players are undergoing a comprehensive training regimen to elevate their fitness, agility, leadership, and strategic acumen.

PCB-shared photos depict players immersed in rigorous drills and gym exercises, underscoring their dedication and intensity. The camp’s strategic alignment with Pakistan’s cricket schedule includes a home T20I series against New Zealand, away fixtures against Ireland and England, and the anticipated ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

However, the camp encountered challenges, notably during the fitness evaluation on the second day, where some players struggled with the prescribed two-kilometer run. Azam Khan’s difficulty in completing the run, managing only one and a half kilometers before stopping, underscores the need for endurance improvement.

Yet, concerns arose as Imad Wasim couldn’t participate due to potential knee injuries, while Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf refrained from the test due to ongoing recovery from PSL injuries.

Noteworthy inclusions in the camp are pace bowler Mohammad Amir and all-rounder Imad Wasim, who returned from retirement, showcasing commitment to national duties.

As the camp progresses, the PCB remains optimistic about players’ readiness for upcoming challenges, aiming to ensure peak physical and mental condition for stellar on-field performances. With a focus on fitness and performance enhancement, Pakistan aims for a strong showing in domestic and international cricket fixtures ahead.
