Pakistan welcomed 2025 with strict security measures, roadblocks, aerial firing and limited celebrations across the country. Karachi imposed Section 144 to prevent aerial firing and one-wheeling, while traffic was diverted in key areas. Major cities saw fireworks displays and small gatherings, but authorities focused on ensuring public safety.

New Year celebrations in Karachi were marred by incidents of aerial firing, resulting in injuries to at least 29 individuals, including women and children. The incidents occurred in multiple areas, such as Liaquatabad, Tariq Road, Shah Faisal, Orangi Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Azizabad, and Korangi. Victims ranged from children to adults, with injuries reported across various localities.

o ensure safety, authorities imposed Section 144 for two days, cracking down on violators. Traffic was rerouted around key areas such as Teen Talwar, PIDC, and Club Road, with heavy traffic restricted on routes to Mai Kolachi. Sindh Rangers and police intensified patrols, and anyone involved in aerial firing faced serious charges.

Festivities

In Karachi, a splendid fireworks display at Bahria Town illuminated the sky, drawing thousands of people to witness the show.

Karachi also saw a concert at Port Grand, while Murree’s Mall Road was packed with tourists. Authorities ensured tight security at all major locations.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori extended New Year greetings, promising 500,000 IT courses and improvements in essential services like electricity and water. At the Governor House, a private fireworks display added to the celebrations. MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar emphasized optimism for the future.

In Islamabad, Park View City dazzled with bright lights and fireworks, with food stalls, live performances, and crowds enjoying the entertainment.

Quetta celebrated with fireworks and a cake-cutting ceremony at a shopping mall, while Multan’s traffic police held a ceremony with electric fireworks. In Gujranwala, a spectacular fireworks show lit up the sky as residents danced in support of Pakistan.

President Zardari’s New Year Message

President Asif Ali Zardari conveyed his warm greetings to Pakistan and the world. He prayed for peace, stability, and prosperity, highlighting the need for unity and hard work to tackle national challenges.

The President called for investing in youth and focusing on the development of underprivileged communities to strengthen Pakistan, urging the nation to reflect on the past and move forward with renewed determination. He concluded with a prayer for success and prosperity in 2025.
