Pakistan’s team achieved two bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held in Astana, Kazakhstan from July 7-14. Zoha Asif from Nixor College, Karachi, and Soban Safdar from FFC Grammar School, Mirpur Mathelo were the recipients of these medals for Pakistan in IBO 2024.
The team participated with support from the STEM Careers programme, a joint initiative of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS).
Dr. Asma Imran and Dr. Amir Ali from the National Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), Faisalabad, provided training to the biology team, which is affiliated with PIEAS University, Islamabad.
Pakistan has been actively engaged in several international Olympiads since 2001 for Physics, 2005 for Mathematics, and from 2006 for Biology and Chemistry. Throughout these years, more than 350 students have represented Pakistan in these prestigious competitions, collectively earning 134 medals.
