Zardari & Shehbaz Join hands for political survival
Following extensive negotiations, the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have announced a power-sharing formula, heralding another chapter in country’s political landscape.
Comments circulating on social media describe this alliance new wine an old bottle , a marriage of convenience, a desperate effort for masking corruption, a scenario of sinking ship, a last ditch effort to stay relevant -a power sharing breakthrough , a pact of opportunism .
While some termed the alliance as journey towards prosperity and a sensible accord .
As part of the accord, Asif Zardari is lined up to assume the presidency, while the seat of Chairman of the Senate will be filled by a PPP nominee, ensuring a balanced distribution of authority. In a move to promote regional representation, the PPP will assume the Chief Minister position in Baluchistan, addressing the province’s unique challenges.
Conversely, the PML-N will take the prestigious position of Prime Minister, reflecting their enduring influence in Pakistani politics. Additionally, reports suggest that the Speaker of the National Assembly will come from the PML-N, consolidating their position in the legislative sphere.
During a joint press conference alongside PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed gratitude for the committee’s arduous work. He announced that both parties now possess sufficient support to form the government, reiterating their dedication to guiding Pakistan through its current crisis.
Bilawal acknowledged the limited support of the Sunni Ittehad Council, facilitating collaboration between the PPP and PML-N. He also invoked divine assistance to overcome challenges, pledging to meet the people’s expectations. Expressing hope for Shahbaz Sharif’s return as Prime Minister, Bilawal extended his gratitude to all, particularly to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif..
Now billion dollar question is that will this alliance a triumph of democracy or yet another episode of political turmoil. Until then, let the show go on.
