MQM-P sidelined as PML N shows indifferent response.

Mustafa Kamal’s leaked video exposes weak bargaining position of MQM-P

A video, allegedly leaked, depicting Mustafa Kamal from MQM-P receiving a Cold Shouldered response from PML N has emerged on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), indicating possible discord within the MQM-P and its coalition partners.

The purportedly leaked video captures Mustafa Kamal engaging in discussions with MQM leaders in a coordination committee session. Allegedly, he mentions that during a recent meeting, the PML N informed MQM-P that while the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) mandate is reportedly about 60% fake, MQM’s mandate is entirely counterfeit.

Another audio has emerged, this time featuring Governor Sindh Kamran Tissori, echoing similar arguments and sentiments regarding PML N’s apathetic stance towards coalition with MQM-P.

Mustafa Kamal’s clarification

In a separate video, Mustafa Kamal attempted to offer clarification, stating that there was nothing novel in the audio as such allegations had already surfaced previously. He attributed responsibility to MQM-London for releasing the recording earlier that morning and expressed relief, citing the exposure of a spy within MQM-P.

“All of you know that the Peoples Party is saying this publicly on TV. We are saying as well that their mandate is fake and vice versa. There is no news here,” the top MQM-P leader said.

He further added that the “important point” in all of this was that this was a meeting of the Rabita Committee. “For several days, we suspected that some people belonging to MQM-London were amongst our rank and file and they are working for them.”

Kamal added that after a thorough forensic of the audio, we got confirmation about who exactly leaked that audio. “This was released [by a member of the MQM-London].”

“Now we know who is “Ghus Bathiya” (the mole) we were waiting for a long time,” He said.

Loss of Credibility: MQM-P’s Leadership in Question

The most significant revelation from these leaked videos is the erosion of leadership credibility of MQM-P and Mustafa Kamal , perpetually jeopardized by its poor performance in the general elections held on February 8th. MQM-P candidates lagged behind, securing the 5th or 6th positions. Despite this, PTI-backed independents and Jamaat-e-Islami led by Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman claimed the 1st or 2nd positions. Surprisingly, MQM-P, backed by the establishment, secured 17 seats but suffered a loss of credibility in the process.

Netizens reaction to the alleged video.

A plethora of comments from netizens has inundated social media platforms following the surfacing of the leaked video involving MQM. Users have been actively engaging in discussions, offering their perspectives, critiques, and analysis of the content showcased in the video.

PML N‘s Interaction with MQM-P …  A Tale of Negotiations and Discontent

In the aftermath of the February 8, 2024 general elections, the spotlight fell on the pivotal role MQM-P who had captured 17 seats. As talks of coalition government ensued, these 17  seats became crucial bargaining chips. Initially, negotiations between PML N and MQM-P appeared promising until PPP’s decision to align with PML-N altered the dynamics.

The shift in PML N’s attitude towards MQM-P during negotiations raised eyebrows. Despite prior positive interactions, sudden changes in demeanor left MQM-P feeling sidelined. Allegations surfaced that MQM’s mandate was deemed illegitimate by PPP, while PML-N hinted at an alliance with PPP, undermining the necessity of MQM-P’s support.

A series of meetings unfolded, marked by tense exchanges and unmet expectations. MQM-P’s demands for constitutional amendments and meaningful ministerial portfolios were met with resistance. Displeasure peaked when PML N questioned MQM-P’s mandate and pressured them to align with PPP without commitment.

Tensions escalated when MQM-P’s committee members found their flights cancelled, signaling a breakdown in communication. Subsequent discussions were characterized by a cautious optimism, with MQM-P emphasizing their substantial electoral support and advocating for meaningful representation in governance.

The MQM-P’s stance reflects a commitment to uphold democratic principles and secure tangible benefits for their constituents. As deliberations continue, the path forward remains uncertain, with MQM-P navigating the complexities of coalition politics while safeguarding their integrity and mandate.
