Monal Restaurant in Islamabad, a beloved dining destination renowned for its breathtaking views and varied menu, is set to shut down permanently next month.
The closure follows directives from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
A recent post on Monal’s social media confirmed the news, stating,
“It’s time to say Goodbye. As per Honorable SCP directions, we are closing on 11/09/2024.”
This announcement comes after the Supreme Court’s order on June 11, which mandated the closure of Monal and other eateries within the Margalla Hills National Park.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa led the Supreme Court bench that dismissed the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) report and directed the closure of all restaurants in the National Park within 90 days.
The court ruled that commercial activities are not permissible in the National Park and suggested considering land leases outside the park for affected establishments.
Earlier, during the hearing, Chief Justice Isa mentioned that the court had requested reports on several other establishments, including the Sports Club Pak-China Center and the Arts Council National Monument, highlighting issues with CDA officials’ conduct.
