The JUI-F leader has confirmed his party’s request for assurances from PTI before committing to the opposition coalition.
Fazlur Rehman inquired about the negotiating authority within PTI—whether it’s the prime minister, the president, or the army chief.
During a joint press conference with PTI representatives after their meeting in Islamabad, Fazlur Rehman stated that although JUI-F hasn’t finalized joining the opposition coalition, there are ongoing efforts to convince them.
When asked if JUI-F had requested guarantees from PTI before initiating an anti-goverment movement, Fazlur Rehman responded affirmatively, stressing the importance of trust-building measures during serious negotiations.
Fazlur Rehman also questioned whom they should engage in talks—whether it’s the prime minister, the president, or the army chief.
He mentioned that PTI leaders Omar Ayub and Asad Qaiser visited them for goodwill, and their approach of reducing bitterness and fostering dialogue was welcomed.
Expressing concerns, Fazlur Rehman criticized the diminishing significance of the Constitution and parliament, as well as the erosion of democracy.
He also criticized ongoing military operations, citing increased terrorism despite prolonged efforts, and highlighted issues such as protests at the Chaman border and livelihood challenges in Jamrud and South Waziristan.
Fazlur Rehman expressed the belief that despite differences, unity could be achieved on common issues.
PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and reiterated the commitment to upholding the Constitution through Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aain.
He condemned the police raid on their office and stressed the need for justice and rule of law.
Former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser thanked Fazlur Rehman for the reception and highlighted economic challenges in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
He called for unity across sectors to uphold the Constitution and condemned recent attacks on judiciary and freedom of expression.
Ayub opposed the Punjab government’s defamation bill and pledged to challenge it in court, echoing Imran Khan’s resolve to stand firm on principles.
