The Karachi Board of Secondary Education has announced the annual results for the 2024 Matric Science exams.This year marks a significant achievement, as a government school has secured the top position for the first time in 27 years, as noted in the results signed by Acting Controller Zaheeruddin Bhutto.
The last time a government school achieved this distinction was in 1996 when Delhi Government Boys School ranked first.Since then, private schools have dominated the top spots due to a decline in the academic performance of government schools.
This year, Hafiz Abdul Rafay Tariq, the son of Tariq Mahboob, a mathematics teacher at Delhi Government Boys Secondary School in Karimabad, claimed the top position with a score of 1,040 out of 1,100 marks, translating to a percentage of 94.55%.
The second and third positions went to students from private institutions. Rumaissa Imran from Al-Khalil Model School in Malir secured second place with 1,037 marks (94.27%), while Rukhsar from Little Folks School in North Nazimabad took third place with 1,025 marks (93.18%).
A total of 163,012 candidates were registered for the Matric Science exams, with 933 candidates absent.
Out of the 162,026 candidates who sat for the exams, 131,614 passed, resulting in a pass rate of 81.24%.
According to the detailed results, 23,943 candidates received an A-1 grade, 45,357 received an A grade, 37,595 received a B grade, 20,837 received a C grade, 4,031 received a D grade, and 25 candidates received an E grade.
Of the candidates who participated, 76,831 were female and 85,195 were male. Among them, 63,767 females and 67,847 males were successful.
In terms of top grades, 15,616 females and 8,327 males earned an A-1 grade, while 23,357 females and 22,000 males secured an A grade.
Additionally, 16,496 females and 21,099 males achieved a B grade, and 7,421 females and 14,416 males passed with a C grade.
