Lahore High Court Refers Imran Khan’s Petition Against Multiple Complaints and Police Activity During Eid to Full Bench

-

Lahore High Court referred former prime minister Imran Khan’s plea against over 100 complaints filed against him and potential police activity at his home during Eidul Fitr vacations to a full bench.

Despite the fact that a writ petition does not require a personal appearance, Khan stood before the bench with his attorney. To get to the high court, the PTI chairman was protected by bulletproof shields and drove a bulletproof car. The PTI chairman filed a petition with the bench, which was made up of Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh and Justice Farooq Haider, alleging that the government was misusing its resources and that more than 140 cases had been filed against him, all of which had the police as the complainant.

The attorney stated that the petitioner could not handle such a high volume of cases and that the police were required by law to provide good cause for an arrest. The PTI leader further said that there were grave concerns that the police would conduct an operation at his home over the Eid holidays, and he requested that the police operation be halted in order to stop any carnage.

Khan’s appeal was contested by Additional Advocate General Ghulam Sarwar Nehang, who contended that courts should not intervene in police investigations. The judges put the hearing on hold and requested that Mr. Khan’s appeal be heard in front of the entire bench by sending the case to the chief justice. According to Mr. Khan’s appeal, the federal government, Punjab’s interim administration, the police, the NAB, the FIA, and the Election Commission of Pakistan have all been named as respondents and at least 121 cases have allegedly been filed against him in various locations across the nation.

The petition requests that the court rule that all FIRs, inquiries, and call-up notices against the petitioner are unlawful and in violation of his fundamental rights, order the respondents to submit thorough reports regarding the cases they have been named in and prohibit them from acting coercively against him.
