Karachi Launches Smart Ticketing Facility for Public Transport

-

KARACHI: In a landmark advancement for public transportation in Pakistan, Karachi’s Green and Orange Lines have officially unveiled a smart ticketing facility, enabling passengers to purchase bus tickets with debit and credit cards.

This innovative system marks the first implementation of smart ticketing in any mass transit system across the country.

Inaugurated by Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi, Vice Chancellor of NED University and Board Member of the Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Limited (SIDCL), the facility aims to enhance the passenger experience through modern technology.
“This smart ticketing system will simplify the travel process for Green Line passengers,” Dr. Lodhi stated. “At all stations, passengers can load funds onto their cards using their debit or credit cards, making the ticketing process more efficient and user-friendly.”

Abdul Aziz, Operations Manager of the Green Line Bus Service, emphasized the significance of this facility, noting that it is the first of its kind for metro services in Pakistan.

He explained that passengers can now conveniently purchase bus tickets with any bank’s debit or credit card, greatly improving accessibility.

The introduction of smart ticketing in Karachi’s public transport system is expected to streamline ticketing processes, reduce waiting times, and enhance the overall efficiency of the city’s mass transit operations.

This initiative reflects a growing commitment to modernizing public transportation, providing residents with a more accessible and seamless travel experience.
