Ugly Side of the Story – JI’s Written Warning on Manhole Covers Was Filed on 29th October

-

In a city already grieving the heartbreaking death of 3-year-old Ibrahim — who fell into an open manhole in Karachi — public anger is at its peak. Amid this tense atmosphere, the President of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi has come forward with alarming claims exposing severe negligence within the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) under Mayor Murtaza Wahab, as well as other Sindh Government departments.

At a press conference held on Monday at Idara-e-Noor-e-Haq, the JI leadership accused KMC and provincial authorities of repeatedly ignoring warnings about Karachi’s crumbling civic infrastructure. According to JI representatives, this consistent negligence has created the conditions for avoidable tragedies and rising public frustration.

The JI President revealed that on October 29, UC Nazim Riaz Azhar had formally raised a complaint during a meeting with the BRT team and Trans Karachi officials, alerting them that this manhole — along with several others in the area — posed a serious threat to public safety. However, no action was taken. “Had the authorities responded on time, this horrific incident could have been prevented,” he stated.

Mr. Munim also shared documentary evidence with the media to support these claims. He further alleged that KMC, under the PPP-led city administration, has lost its credibility and that Karachi’s entire civic infrastructure is now at risk. “People are suffering because of an incompetent and corrupt system,” he added.
