Jamaat Islami’s Dharna Demands Cut in Electricity Bills

-

  • The government should provide a 50% discount on electricity for those using up to 500 units.
  • The recent increases in petrol levy and electricity prices should be immediately reversed.
  • A 20% reduction in consumer product prices should be implemented.
  • Taxes imposed on stationery items should be immediately removed.
  • Government expenses should be reduced, with a 35% cut in non-developmental expenditures.
  • The agreement for paying capacity charges and IPPs in dollars should be terminated.
  • Contracts with IPPs should be revised.
  • Unjust taxes on agriculture and industry should be abolished.
  • Taxes on salaried individuals should be eliminated, and the privileged class should be brought into the tax net.

Jamaat Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeem stated on Saturday that there is no personal agenda behind their actions, only a desire for the country’s bright future. He emphasized the need to rein in Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and declared that the sit-in will continue until their goals are met.

Naeem assured that they will not let the oppression of Pakistan continue and pledged to restore the rights of the nation’s 250 million people. He vowed not to disappoint those who have placed their hopes in Jamaat Islami.

He warned that if electricity bills are not reduced, the sit-in will expand nationwide. He also announced plans for a major gathering on Murree Road tomorrow and a public meeting for women on Monday.

Criticizing the Punjab government, Naeem highlighted the arrest of numerous party workers in the province, with reports of significant arrests and FIRs in Lahore, and arrests of elderly individuals in cities like Okara and Multan.

Naeem called for the immediate release of the detained workers and warned that the sit-in could be directed elsewhere if necessary.

He criticized the government’s approach, asserting that fascism and dialogue cannot coexist.
