Authorities in Islamabad have sealed off the Red Zone with containers ahead of planned protests by Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) today, News reported.
Jamaat-i-Islami will hold a sit-in protest at D-Chowk, while PTI is staging nationwide protests against rising electricity bills and inflation.
Key intersections in the Red Zone, including D-Chowk, Nadra Chowk, and Sarina Chowk, have been blocked with containers.
Both the federal and Punjab governments have imposed Section 144 in Punjab and Islamabad from July 26 to July 28 to restrict gatherings.
JI Secretary General Ameer-ul-Azeem stated that police have raided the homes of JI leaders across the country, targeting them and their activists to disrupt the protests. He reported numerous incidents of police raids, arrests, and mistreatment of women.
