ISLAMABAD: In a nighttime operation, Islamabad Police foiled a significant terrorism attempt by seizing a large cache of explosives and weapons in the Sangjani area, enhancing security measures for Muharram.
The recovered items included hand grenades, a suicide jacket, and an AK-47 rifle.
Officials confirmed that the intelligence-based operation (IBO) aimed to ensure public safety by uncovering dangerous weaponry, including detonators and materials for a suicide jacket. The bomb disposal squad was quickly called in to disarm the explosives.
During the operation, suspects fired at the approaching police team and then fled the scene. The area was swiftly secured, and an extensive search operation is underway with increased police presence.
A police spokesperson emphasized the daily conduct of such operations across Islamabad, highlighting their crucial role in preventing potential terror activities and ensuring public safety during sensitive periods.
Authorities have filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the CTD police station, and special teams have been deployed to apprehend the fleeing suspects, demonstrating the ongoing commitment to maintaining security during the high-alert period.
