800,000 Cusecs Panic – India’s Another Water Release Sparks Chenab Panic

-

🌊Water War from India is in full swing . A fresh wave of panic has gripped Pakistan after reports emerged that India has released a massive volume of water from the Salal Dam, threatening an 800,000 cusecs surge into the River Chenab.

In Wazirabad, mosque loudspeakers blared urgent warnings, urging residents to leave homes immediately and rush to safer places. Villagers were told to protect their families and belongings, as fears of flash flooding spread like wildfire. Indian media fueled the alarm, reporting that all 12 spillways of the Salal Dam had been opened, potentially unleashing a destructive flood wave across Punjab.

But as panic spread, confusion followed. The Punjab government denied receiving any official confirmation of such a release. According to official sources, neither a notification nor formal communication has been received from Indian authorities. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also confirmed that no verified report had been issued on Chenab’s water levels.

🚨 The alerts game

While officials dismissed the Chenab scare, they admitted to a high-level flood alert on the Sutlej River at Harike, where water levels are already surging. However, PDMA spokespersons were clear: “No official warning has been received concerning the River Chenab or any other rivers.”

This duality — mosque announcements warning of disaster and government offices denying any danger — has left people confused and fearful. Many residents say they would rather heed the mosque alerts than wait for delayed government action.

Govt on high alert

Following directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab, the civil administration has been put on *red alert. DG PDMA Irfan Kathia reassured that if India indeed releases water, timely alerts will be issued to both authorities and citizens. He added that all departments have been instructed to remain *vigilant around the clock.

💬 The bigger picture

This is not the first time India has been accused of using its upstream dams to suddenly release water toward Pakistan, triggering fears of man-made floods. Water experts warn that such sudden discharges not only threaten lives but also devastate crops, livestock, and infrastructure in Punjab’s fertile belt.

For now, the River Chenab stands at the center of speculation — a looming monster of floodwater or a manufactured scare. Until clear facts emerge, panic and uncertainty will keep haunting riverside residents.
