Karachi’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) successfully foiled a heroin smuggling operation, seizing drugs hidden in a potato shipment destined for Sri Lanka.
ANF personnel intercepted the heroin, concealed within a refrigerated container of potatoes, during an operation at Karachi International Container Terminal based on intelligence reports.
An ANF spokesperson revealed that approximately 5 kilograms of heroin were found hidden in 122 potatoes out of 1,198 sacks. Each of the 80 sacks contained one or two drug-filled potatoes, which were carefully recovered by the ANF team.
One suspect has been arrested, and authorities are actively investigating to apprehend further suspects involved in the smuggling attempt.
The container was booked by a private company, and further raids are expected as the investigation progresses. The suspect is now in ANF custody for interrogation.
