LAHORE, May 07 , Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, staunchly opposed government proposals aimed at restricting social media and stifling freedom of expression, expressing concerns about the potential censorship of X.

Addressing social media influencers and YouTubers at Mansoorah on Tuesday, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman pointed out that even a formidable state like the US has struggled to silence voices on social media, leading to widespread protests among students at prestigious universities over the situation in Gaza.

Disclosing that the JI Majlise Shura is slated to convene on May 25 to discuss the national agenda, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman stressed that the JI would propose measures for peaceful resistance following the meeting. He criticized the current government for coming into power through a fraudulent mandate, deeming it unacceptable to the JI, and lamented the near collapse of the national economy, highlighting the plight of farmers unable to sell their wheat to the government.

Regarding the wheat import scandal, Emir JI called for a thorough investigation and assured solidarity with the farmers’ demands. Expressing concern over the deteriorating education and healthcare sectors, he announced plans to expand the JI’s “Banoo Qabil Program” nationwide. Criticizing the government’s policies, he attributed the low IT export figures to mismanagement while asserting that Pakistan’s IT exports could exceed $25 billion with better governance.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman encouraged social media influencers to use their platforms to advocate for virtuous causes and serve as voices for society.

Meanwhile, former president Dr. Arif Alvi visited JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman at Mansoorah, reaffirming their commitment to cooperation for the supremacy of the constitution and democracy.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman disclosed the JI’s intention to participate in an opposition-led seminar on protecting the constitution on May 8, emphasizing the importance of strengthening local government and reinstating student unions. He advocated for internal democracy within political parties, a sentiment echoed and supported by both leaders.
