The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) released its Global Peace Index 2024 report this week, the leading measure of global peacefulness.
The report ranks 163 countries, covering 99.7% of the world’s population, by evaluating factors like safety, security, conflicts, and militarisation.
This year, Pakistan was ranked 140th, improving by two spots from last year, but still placing among the bottom 24 countries globally. In comparison, India ranked 116th.
Iceland, Ireland, and Austria were identified as the three most peaceful countries. The GPI assesses peace across three domains: Societal Safety and Security, Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict, and the Degree of Militarisation.
