Gilgit-Baltistan recently hosted the grand Jashn-e-Pakistan Polo Tournament, the largest polo event in the northern regions.
Over a vibrant ten days, the tournament was held at the Wahab Shaheed Polo Ground, organized by the Force Commander Northern Area.
Fifteen teams, including newcomers from Chitral, competed in the high-stakes matches, marking a departure from the traditional Shandur field competitions.
The NLI team claimed victory in the final against GB Scouts A, with the thrilling match drawing a crowd of more than 40,000, notably featuring a record number of female spectators.
The tournament’s matches were illuminated by artificial lighting, enhancing the viewing experience for the enthusiastic audience. The closing ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including the Force Commander FC NA and the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Local residents expressed their excitement and appreciation for the event, highlighting the Pakistan Army’s efforts to create family-friendly spaces and boost community engagement. The Jashn-e-Pakistan Polo Tournament not only celebrated the region’s polo heritage but also fostered a sense of cultural pride and unity.
